Henrik Jensen's musical projects span original quartet compositions, intimate trio work, long-standing duo partnerships and contributions to a wide range of collaborative recordings across the European jazz scene.

Henrik Jensen's 'Followed By Thirteen'

Founded in 2010, Followed By Thirteen is Jensen's primary compositional outlet — a quartet featuring Andre Canniere on trumpet, Esben Tjalve on piano and Antonio Fusco on drums. The group has released three acclaimed albums: Blackwater (Jellymould Jazz, 2016), Qualia and Affinity (Babel, 2019). Their music balances composed structures with free-flowing improvisation, earning praise from the Guardian, Evening Standard and international jazz press.

The New Simplicity Trio

Led by Italian drummer Antonio Fusco with UK pianist Bruno Heinen and Henrik Jensen on double bass, the New Simplicity Trio explores the expressive potential of the classic piano trio format. Their debut album Common Spaces (Babel, 2017) features eleven original compositions built around space, melody and collective dialogue — a counterpoint to the quartet's more expansive sound.

Jensen / Ehwald

A close creative partnership with Berlin saxophonist Peter Ehwald spanning more than a decade. The duo recorded at Union Chapel, London in 2011, producing an album of intimate bass-and-saxophone conversations. Their earlier collaboration, Songs of Trees with The North Trio (33 Jazz, 2008), marked the beginning of a sustained musical relationship across borders.

Collaborations & Session Work

Beyond his own projects, Jensen has contributed to recordings and performances with artists including Michael Blake, Elizabeth Shepherd, Hannes Riepler, Gene Calderazzo and Billy Jenkins. His versatility as a bassist — equally at home in composed and freely improvised settings — has made him a sought-after collaborator on the London and European jazz scenes.
